Josiah T. Walls was an African American politician and Civil War veteran who served in the United States House of Representatives representing the state of Florida during the Reconstruction era. Born into slavery in Virginia in 1842, Walls escaped to freedom during the Civil War and joined the Union Army. After the war, he settled in Florida where he became involved in politics and was elected to Congress in 1870. During his time in office, Walls advocated for civil rights for African Americans and fought against racial discrimination. Walls was also involved in land reform efforts, supporting measures to redistribute land from large landowners to African American farmers. He served three terms in Congress before leaving politics in 1876. Walls later became a lawyer and served as a judge in Florida. He died in 1905.
